Who Needs Competitive Intelligence?
In the corporate world today there are many executives who ask this question. The concept of developing a viable competitive intelligence system is alien to them. In fact the number of really dumb top executives in industry and commerce makes me wonder how their corporations survive at all in their little pink bubble, out of touch with a changing world. In one fast paced company I know the senior managers have evolved by default, and this multi million dollar venture is freewheeling towards an obscure future. They make no effort to understand their marketplace, competitors, or how they could improve their profitability. They believe they are number one, and don’t know of any competition. Their competition is eroding their market share and stealing clients right under their noses. Fortunately such information is not on their radar screens. Ignorance of external forces is a bliss! This group of executives likes to be surprised when they get new business. They aren’t prepared for any new
