Who needs ACEC approval?
You will need approval from the ACEC if you propose to undertake a research or teaching project, product testing or other experimental study in which animals are used. An animal is defined as any vertebrate (other than a human being) and includes mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. ACEC approval is obtained by the Chief Investigator on behalf of all those involved with animals on a particular project. The Chief Investigator must be a member of staff of the University, Hunter-New England Area Health Service, Avondale College, Wildthing Environmental Consultants or other Accredited Research Establishments for which the University of Newcastle ACEC acts as the nominated ACEC.
