Oil and acquisition companies do for sure. They employ fleets of landmen armed with geophysical data, blank checks, and the task of acquiring your property rights as cheaply as possible in order to advance exploration and eventual profits for their employers. When oil and gas booms start, mineral properties tend to lease at low prices offered to landowners who don’t know exactly what their mineral values might be worth. That is why landowners need a land man who is connected in the oil and gas industry, but whose first loyalty is to the mineral owner. A landman who can make money as he makes more money for you, instead of one who makes money at your extreme expense. This is especially true for landowners who have other obligations than watching market trends, sniffing out industry leads, and spending time in the courthouse or the oilfield.
