Who needs a business license in the City of Palos Verdes Estates?
Any person conducting business in the City (whether for profit or not) must obtain a business license. Charitable organizations are exempt from payment of the business license tax, but must still obtain a license. Religious and political organizations are exempt, provided they are not seeking charitable contributions. See Chapter 5.08 of the municipal code for more information. Solicitors, whether charitable or commercial, must obtain a solicitation permit (photo ID issued by City) in addition to a business license. In 1993, Council authorized home occupation businesses under certain limited conditions that ensure there is no impact on neighbors. If you operate any business from your home, you will need to secure a home occupation permit. Please contact the Finance Department at (310) 378-0383 for more information on home occupation permits.
