Who must take the COMPASS Test?
All curricular students must take the Compass reading, writing, and mathematics tests before they register for any courses at the college. Students interested in certain curriculums may be required to take additional specialized placement tests. Non-curricular students shall be required to take the Compass reading, writing, and mathematics test when: (1) they have accumulated nine or more semester credits in college courses and are experiencing academic difficulty in one or more areas. In this case, academic difficulty means having a cumulative GPA of less than 2.0 or receiving an F or U in a class, or (2) they wish to enroll in one or more of the courses for which placement testing is required such as English, history, psychology, mathematics, and others (see catalog and class schedule). All students whose native language is not English must take the colleges ESL (English as a Second Language) placement test before registering for any courses in the college. Students who wish to take
