Tier 2 – Skilled Worker is aimed at enabling UK employers to recruit individuals from outside the UK and EEA to fill a particular job that cannot be filled by a British or EEA worker. Tier 2 has replaced the following routes into the UK: • Work permit employment (including sportspersons and entertainers other than those who are only seeking to come to the UK temporarily who should apply in Tier 5); • Ministers of religion, missionaries and members of religious orders; • Airline ground staff; • Overseas qualified nurses or midwives (with job offer) ; • Some seafarers; • Researchers; • Training and Work Experience Scheme (TWES); • Various categories of work previously dealt with by concessions outside the Immigration Rules; • Representatives of overseas media organisations (but not overseas journalists).
