Oracle is the gatekeeper of the Lustre source tree, much like kernel.org keeps the Linux source tree. DDN and Whamcloud are consumers of the Oracle GPL Lustre tree, much like RedHat and Novell and consumers of the kernel.org Linux tree. DDN’s ExaScaler is its own Lustre distribution, based on the Oracle source tree. DDN and Whamcloud engineers work with Oracle engineers to put patches and enhancements back upstream to the Oracle master source tree.
