there really is no BEST. it might be what works best for your situation, but no over all best. I dont like the carbon fiber ones as they are to easy to shatter and dont like cold weather, and will crack too easy if used in cold weather and or snow. I like the gitzo, manfrotto and giottos brands. I use the giottos the most, as they are the most cost affective. I us an Acratech quick release bracket on the top of each of my monopods, so I can use my camera or lenses quick and easily on it just like I do on my tripods with the acratech heads on them. Get a monopod that is reated for atleast 5-7x the weight you figure you will put on it(I use the 33pound rated ones as they are more stable. anything under 17-20# rated just feels so flimsy). The aluminum ones work well and are still pretty light and can be used as a walking stick if needed. I hope this helps.
