Who makes sure that developers are not building on sites of possible archaeological interest?
We monitor all planning applications across the County on behalf of the various Local Planning Authorities. Where necessary we provide advice on the archaeological importance of the proposed development building or site, the probable impact of the development and any archaeological investigations, recording, or other actions required. Planning decisions are, however, made by the Local Planning Authorities, not the Archaeology Service.
