Who maintains and checks the outdoor children’s play areas in parks?
The play areas are inspected at least 3 times a week by our service providers. The visit involves a visual inspection of equipment and debris etc is removed and the surface is swept or raked away. Wherever possible graffiti will be immediately wiped clean unless the material used requires additional resources to assist in the cleaning of heavier paint based solutions. Any obvious visual defects are reported to the Parks Playground Services who have a team of suitably experienced engineers who repair or replace any damaged equipment. The Playground Services Engineers also carry out a monthly inspection to check the workings and safety of the equipment. Regrettably, some of our children’s play facilities are subject to wanton vandalism including fire damage which due to the high cost of replacement play equipment combined with our limited finances may mean that the children’s play area can only be made safe and the equipment not replaced until the finance is sourced some time in the futu
