Who licenses teachers in the State of West Virginia?
Under state law, teachers are required to hold licenses or certificates issued by the State Superintendent of Schools. If a teacher commits an act of misconduct, the State Superintendent may bring administrative hearing proceedings before an educator panel to take disciplinary action against a teacher’s license or certificate. The Attorney General’s Office provides advice and counsel to the educator panel and the State Superintendent on these matters.
