Famed Huxtable painting comes to New Orleans New Orleans CityBusiness, Aug 1, 2005 by New Orleans CityBusiness Staff Fans of The Cosby Show will recall the painting of a Haitian funeral procession hanging over the Huxtable living room mantel. African-American artist Ellis Wilson’s best-known painting, Funeral Procession, will be on exhibit until Sept. 30 at Tulane University in the Amistad Research Center at Tilton Hall. Wilson, a native of Mayfield, Ky., struggled to make a living as an artist. His most famous painting appeared in 1985 on the Cosby Show eight years after he died. Regenia Perry, visual arts curator for the Amistad Research Center, estimates the value of the circa-1950 painting at $150,000. It’s by far not the best painting in the collection.
