You’ve noticed that on your downhills your stride length is longer and on the uphills your stride length is shorter. That is actually exactly what you want. Downhill you can take advantage of a longer stride in order to run quicker (just don’t allow yourself to overstride too much or you will risk injury). Uphill your body essentially shifts gears. By shortening your stride going up you run in the range of your legs that produces the most force to get you up the hill. Without any special attention, your body has already adapted to the most efficient way to run uphill and downhill, don’t mess with it.
