Who knew…employers rate communication as the most valuable skill?
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers consistently rate communication skills, along with work ethic and teamwork skills, as the most important attributes when recruiting new college graduates. When asked which skill most graduates lack when entering the workforce, employers also site communication skills. Aside from employers, when surveyed, Rice alumni also voice the need for and recognize the value of higher level communication skills in the workplace. Well-written employment applications and interviewing skills are vital, but graduates soon understand the need to further demonstrate persuasive communication skills that include writing proposals, conducting presentations, facilitating meetings and negotiating transactions.
