Who is Victor Laszlo?
Laszlo is not even a Czech name–it is a first name in Hungary. Victor was chosen as his first name as a swipe at the Nazis, and of course, he ended up with Ingrid Bergman, which makes him quite a winner. The Czechs had Jan Masaryk as a national hero at the time, but the Henreid character seems to have little in common with him. I would say Victor Laszlo is a fictional construct intended to represent all the peoples struggling under the Nazi boot.
