Who Is Vanessa Carlton?
At first glance, you’ll notice that Vanessa shares a lot in common with our young friend, Michelle Branch. Similarities include: * Youth (she’s 21 – Michelle is 18) * Dark features (Brown hair, brown eyes) * Writes her own music (ditto) * Doesn’t do the Christina or Britney thing – insists on playing her own instrument (piano or guitar). Although Michelle and Vanessa have a lot in common, they both reached their record contracts in very different ways. From an early age, Vanessa was in love with the arts. Under her mother’s guidance, she studied piano and ballet. She wrote her own music, starting at 8 but instead of focusing on that, ballet soon took over her life. At the age of 14, she moved to New York City to study ballet at the School of American Ballet. For the next three years, it consumed her and just as she was about to take the next step into the professional world of ballet, she decided to abandon it and reverted back to the thing that gave her the most peace – music.
