Who is UNCOMMON CENTS (UC) ?
Uncommon Cents (UC) was founded by Victoria, B.C. resident Dean Costas. After being raised in Southern Ontario, Dean moved to Victoria 20 years ago where he spent about 10 years as a financial representative specializing in young families. That experience led Dean to realize that Canadians require a source of financial educational that is not tied to the sales of financial products. Dean began work on Uncommon Cents in 2004 and left the financial industry in 2007 to launch the company. Uncommon Cents is the product of Dean’s recognition that consumers are constantly being sold financial products without adequate objective education. While there’s nothing wrong with sales, consumers would prefer to make choices based on knowledge from an impartial source, before engaging in the sales process. Since this need has been largely unfulfilled, Uncommon Cents was founded to fill the void. UC offers straight talk about the financial topics that we wonder about, but don’t seem to be discussed. A
