Who is this Elliotte guy, and just what qualified him to write a Java FAQ anyway?
He was willing to do it. Seriously, months on the Java mailing lists made it obvious that a FAQ was needed and since none seemed to be forthcoming from those more qualified than I, I boldly and with a complete disregard for my absolute lack of qualifications stepped forward and volunteered. I do have some hope that my previous experience with FAQ lists, the world wide web and a variety of programming languages may somehow cover up the fact that I have no idea what I’m doing. You’ve read the FAQ list by now. Did I succeed? Why am I taking on such a Herculean task? It’s often said that you never really understand a subject until you teach it. I’m going to endeavor to learn Java and understand it by teaching it. The result should be interesting at least. Since I’m very new to Java and clearly do not yet understand the language, I’ll have a perspective on the issues that should be helpful to newcomers. Are there mistakes here? Absolutely. I hope people here and elsewhere will correct me ge
