Science however, youngest scientist to receive the prestigious Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award in Medical Sciences is Dr Chinmoy Shankar Dey, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER). He is one of the youngest scientists who got this highest scientific recognition at the age of 41. Dr. Dey had completed his Ph.D from Kolkata, done his post-doctoral research in the USA. At first he was at the California Institute of Technology and later at the Baylor College of Medicine, in Texas. However later he decided to move to India and he joined at the National Institute of Immunology. Dr. Dey was one of the first scientists to join NIPER when it was just starting up.
