Who is the worst character in “A Christmas Carol”?
One of the worst characters in “A Christmas Carol” is Old Joe, the spider-like buyer of the articles stolen from Scrooge’s room and body; his only interest is in the goods he receives, and he encourages the thieves who bring them to him. While the undertaker, the charwoman and the laundress steal to supplement their small incomes, Old Joe just collects, and pays as little as he can for what he gets. While Scrooge himself is certainly bad, his soul can be, and is, saved and redeemed by the end of the book. Old Joe will always be a bad and corrupting character.
