Who is the songwriter of Sweet Caroline lyrics and who sings it?
What is really cool about this song is that the Caroline in the title was kept a secret for so long. Only recently did Diamond, while performing at her 50th birthday party, reveal that it was written for the then President’s daughter. If I’m remembering the story right, he saw a photo of her in a magazine all decked out in her riding gear — she obviously inherited her mother’s love of horses — and something just clicked. Diamond wasn’t particularly well known at the time, but the song became popular despite his unwillingness or maybe partly because of his unwillingness to reveal who the Caroline he was singing about was. That said, it was a good song, so I’m sure his secret wasn’t the real reason for its popularity. I think Caroline was probably about 10-11 at the time it was written, so if anyone made the connection, they probably just said, nah, why would some singer-songwriter be singing about a kid.
