Who is the rikishi who won more than 7 consecutive times in a Grand Sumo Championship?
I thought it could have been Taiho or Takanohana, but they did not win 7 consecutive times much less more than 7 consecutive times. The only rikishi who won 7 times was the great yokozuna Asashoryu who had just retired from active sumo competition. He did it 7 times from the November 2004 Grand Sumo Tournament straight to November 2005 Grand Sumo Tournament, or 7 straight, consecutive times as the Grand Champion. However, in terms of most Grand Sumo Championship wins, it was Taiho who held the best record while Takanohana was the all-time favorite sumo wrestler in modern times (according to the Japanese fans) but Asashoryu is the best there is in winning straight honbashos in recorded sumo annals. Yet, he did not win more than 7 consecutive times in a Grand Sumo Championship. So, my answer is, there was and still is no sumo wrestler who had or who has won more than 7 times in a Grand Basho Championship.
