Who is the only female Pharaoh in Egyptian history.?
Hatshepsut, the only female pharoh to rule over ancient Egypt (Cleopatra was Greek), had angered her half-brother, Thutmosis III, by claming the throne as the only truly legitimate heir of Thutmosis I. Although Hatshepsut did rule over the kingdom for her whole life, she had to jump through high hoops to legitimize her claim to the throne, claiming a divine birth, and she spent the entirety of her rule looking over her shoulder for palace intrigue and mutiny led by Thutmosis III. Indeed, after Hatshepsut died, Thutmosis III ururped this obelisk, eradicated any mention of Hatshepsut, and claimed it for himself. For the remainder of his reign he continued this practice, obliterating reference to his half-sister and claiming credit for monuments she had built. Were it not for later pharohs, who righted Thutmosis III wrongs, we might have never known about Egypt’s only female pharoh.
