Who is the mentoring for?

The young people taking part in the project are being looked-after (in care) by the borough of Islington. This may mean that they are living or going to school in the borough, or both. All of the young people are aged between 13 and 17 and already work with a Connexions Personal Advisor. There are no generalisations which can be made about these young people – they have all had different experiences of the care system and have been affected by this in different ways. Some of them will need more intensive support than others. Some of them will be in education, some in employment or training, and some will not be in education or employment. All of them have asked for a mentor and would really benefit from their support. They are all encouraged to shape their own mentoring partnership. They are known as ‘mentees’.
