In Alberta, only registered members of the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) may call themselves Emergency Medical Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians or Emergency Medical Technologist – Paramedics. What are the licensure requirements for internationally educated Paramedics? An Individual Equivalency Process is required for those applicants who are graduates of an EMR program not approved by the Alberta College of Paramedics, individuals trained in provinces and/or territories that do not have a governing body and, out-of-country applicants. There are three areas of practice regulated by the Alberta College of Paramedics. They are: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR); Emergency Medical Technician – (EMT); and Emergency Medical Technologist – Paramedic (EMT-P).
