Who is the husband of Hestia?
Hestia had no husband, as she chose to remain a virgin. However, both Poseidon and Apollo wanted Hestia, and tried to woo her. After Apollo’s advances, she asked Zeus for his permission (and protection) in order to remain a virgin forever. Another myth tells the story of Priapos attempting to rape Hestia while she slept. However, she was awoken just in time (by the sound of a donkey), and called on Zeus to save her. As described by Homer (in “Homeric Hymn 5”) Hestia was “a queenly maid whom both Poseidon and Apollon sought to wed. But she was wholly unwilling, nay, stubbornly refused; and touching the head of father Zeus … she … sware a great oath which has in truth been fulfilled, that she would be a maiden all her days.
