Who Is the Green Fairy?

0

In pop culture, something new can actually be something very old. The green fairy has two connotations, an alcoholic drink and a mystical muse. While the drink is more popular today the muse is much more interesting. The fact that the drink has become popular again after it’s history and namesake, says something about the culture today. The green fairy is a mythical creation symbolizing inspiration, transformation, freedom, exploration, enlightenment, societal changes and advancement all things artists, poets and writers find inspirational. So it’s no surprise she’s become the “Green Muse”. Becoming popular in France, she was known as “La Fee Verte”. She appeared in many writings and paintings, such as “The Green Muse” in 1895 by Albert Maignan. It showed a poet standing, and the beautiful green fairy behind him with her hands on his head inspiring him. Still today La Fee Verte is very popular, modern artist Christopher Stribley has created a piece he calls “Ode to La Fee Verte”. Chris
