Who is the greatest film composer of all time?
Jerry goldsmith was an excellent composer, his scores for star trek are excellent, and I love what he did for Air Force One, but I still have to say that Williams is better. While Goldsmith has several scores that are extrordonary, some of his other music is just okay, Williams (in my opinion) has done more excellent work, his scores for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurrasic Park, etc. are so good. It is important to note the differnece in styles, while they both have a distinct “20th century” sound to them, williams is more on the classical style using high brass and low strings, goldsmith was more on the modern side, makeing more use of electronic instuments (though he still did use mostly orchestra) and useing more low stings with low or intermediate brass.
