Who is the greatest classical violinist of all time? 2nd question: same but performing today?
In my opinion as a violin instructor, I would definitely say Italian virtuoso Niccolò Paganini. Paganini was known for his perfect intonation and marvelous bowing technique when he played the violin. A good example of his unrivaled dexterity are his 24 caprices. The 24 caprices are regarded as the greatest collection of caprices of all time. The No. 1 in E major (the arpeggio) is consider the most notable capriccio of them all because it’s fast and intense intonation is simply flawless. The virtuostic nature of his 24 caprices is what establishes Niccolò Paganini as the greatest violinist the world has ever know. In modern times, the most accomplished violin virtuoso is Itzhak Perlman. There is absolutely no other side of the coin in that one.
