Earhart went missing on 2nd July 1937, whilst attempting to fly from California to Hawaii with her navigator and co-pilot Fred Noonan. Their ‘plane, a twin-engined Lockheed Electra, disappeared somewhere near the Nukumaru islands South West of Hawaii. Neither they nor their aircraft have ever been recovered.
