Who is the first Thane of Cawdor in the play Macbeth?
The original Thane of Cawdor is not actually mentioned by name. But there is a Thane, that Macbeth kills in battle. He is awarded the deceased mans title as reward for his victory in battle (this is the battle that Macbeth and Banquo are returning from when they originally meet the weird sisters). When received by the King, he grants Macbeth the title as was the custom in the day.
