Who is the best character in Mario Kart 64 taking into account acceleration, top speed, and weight?
I believe there are 3 styles of racing: Hopping (which is primarily limited to the bigger characters), power-slide boosting (mostly done by Mario and Luigi, because of their ability to do this the most efficiently), and standard (used by the smaller characters because they are more spastic in steering, making it difficult to hop or power-slide boost). I believe experts in any of the three strategies can compete with anyone. I myself play as Mario and utilize the power-slide boosting strategy, and I often play against hoppers and standard styles. I find that power-slide boosting as often as I can in a race gives me an overall higher average speed than anyone else, which basically means that the best power-slide booster is essentially the best player because they are the fastest. With that said, given the heavier and smaller characters’ inability to effectively utilize the power-slide boost, Mario and Luigi are the best characters in the game.
