Who is the author of the web page?
In traditional research of any kind teachers have always required that students record for the bibliography, the authors of any material used. Often on the web, unfortunately, web pages are posted without even a hint as to who the author might be. Sometimes only other pages on a web site have an author listed and it may not be clear if this is the person, which authored the page in which the student is interested. Even when an author is listed on a page, students should be taught to question the likeliness of the author being an authority or a reliable source for information on this topic. A page posted on global warming made by Ms. Speer s 4th grade class might be interesting, but it would be very difficult to construe this class as an authority on the subject. They probably got all their information from third parties, so it would be more useful for a student to e-mail Ms. Speer and find out the sources for their information.
