Who is the 2009 awardee?
This year Friends of the River is doing something a little different. Instead of honoring one person or organization as we usually do, we’re bestowing our California Rivers Award on the passionate group of volunteers who, thirty years ago, tried to save the Stanislaus River. Out of their efforts was born Friends of the River, as well as a river conservation movement that continues to this day. This year’s California River Awards will be a celebration of the “Stan Campaigners” and their legacy: 30 years of no new dams in California.
