Who is Tampa Sports Authority and what does it do?
WHO – Tampa Sports Authority (TSA) was created by action of the Florida Legislature. WHEN – May 28, 1965. WHY – The Enabling Act directed the TSA to “plan, develop and maintain a comprehensive complex of sports and recreational facilities.” WHAT – The TSA owns, by virtue of a deed of conveyance by the legislature in its enabling act: • 134 acres known as the “Stadium Complex” (formerly Tampa Stadium) and its parking lots. • The Raymond James Stadium and its parking lots. • The St. Petersburg Times Forum (Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Arena). • The Authority operates three golf courses. The courses are owned by the city of Tampa and operate financially independent of the stadium. The courses are Babe Zaharias, Rocky Point and Rogers Park.
