WHO IS STUDYING ABROAD?
According to the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) Open Doors report, in the academic year 2005/2006, 223,534 U.S. students studied abroad, an increase of 8.5 percent from the previous year. While study abroad numbers are on the rise overall, growth is still lacking in non-traditional destinations such countries within the Asia Pacific Region. Additionally, access to study abroad must be made more available to all students, including those who are considered “underrepresented”, specifically those with low income, diverse backgrounds and certain academic majors.
