Who is Steven Curtis Chapman and what happened to his daughter?
Steven Curtis Chapman is an American Christian musician. He has won 5 Grammy Awards, 54 Dove Awards, and sold over 10 million albums. He and his wife, Mary Beth, have three biological children and are also outspoken advocates of adoption, having adopted three young Chinese girls. They also founded and run an orphan care and and adoption ministry called Shaohannah’s Hope. It was one of the couple’s adopted children, Maria Sue Chapman, who died in an accident on May 21, 2008. The 5-year-old was hit by her older brother (one of the biological children), Will Franklin, as he pulled into the driveway of the family home in an SUV. She was announced to be dead on arrival upon reaching the hospital. The Chapmans are currently developing a home for special needs children in Maria’s honor, which will be called Maria’s Big House of Hope and will be located in Luoyang, China. This development is funded by Shaohannah’s Hope and the New Hope Foundation. Sources:
