Who is St Paul to the Catholic Church?
St Paul is significant, not to just the Catholic church, but to all Christians. He was not a disciple of Jesus, as he never met Christ. Originally named Saul, he was a zealous Jew who was known for his persecution of the Christians until his dramatic conversion experience on the road to Damascus (as told in Acts chapter 9). After that point, he became the most widely travelled missionary and evangelist, spreading the news of the Gospel to the Gentiles.
