Who is Senator Gaylord Nelson?Answer: Earth Day was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson (1916 – 2005) of Wisconsin. Senator Nelson was born in Clear Lake Wisconsin and received his BA degree from San Jose State College, California in 1939. He served in the US Army during the Second World War. After the war, he returned to Wisconsin to practice law. He later served in the Wisconsin Senate and as a two-time Governor of Wisconsin. In 1962, he joined the US Senate where he served for 18 years.
