Who is responsible for the maintenance & repair of a sewer lateral?
The sewer pipe that connects a building to the city sewer main in the center of the street is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain & repair. That includes the entire length of pipe from the building to the city main in the center of the street, as per city ordinance. A permit must be obtained from the City Engineers office prior to commencing any relevant work.
