Who is responsible for the Data Protection issues for specific research projects?
The principal investigator has overall responsibility. This includes ensuring informed consent for the collection of data by using participant information sheet, which conforms to the Data Protection Act 1998; agreeing who can access the data and the level of access each user is allowed and recording this information; approving security protection for the data; ensuring compliance with security controls and organising secure arrangements for the long term storage or destruction of data.
