Who is responsible for protected trees?
We are only responsible for trees on our land. Trees on privately owned land are the responsibility of the landowner. If the landowner wishes to carry out any work to a tree protected by a Tree Preservation Order they must ask the Council for permission. What should I do if I want to work on a protected tree? You must contact the Tree Officer in writing by e-mail or letter to seek permission, specifying the trees, what you want to do and why. Please ask for an application form or download the TPO Consent Application Form and return to the Tree Officer. How to appeal a decision: You can appeal to the Planning Inspectorate in writing within 28 days of receiving the decision. You will find information on how to do this on the back of the decision notice issued by the Council.
