If the Gp is trying to get the patient admitted but is unable to then he needs to put an urgent referal to the Community Mental Health Team. They will then take over and treat him from there. If you are concerned about the person you can take them to A&E and request that are seen by the On call Psychiatirist who can make an assesment. DO NOT let A&E fob you off. Official Advice Many people receive specialist mental health care and treatment in the community. Some people can experience severe mental health problems that require admission to hospital for assessment and treatment. People can only be detained if the strict criteria laid down in the Act are met. The person must be suffering from a mental disorder as defined by the Act.
