Who is responsible for a security breach of patient data from my home computer?
The University is responsible to the patients. You are culpable if the security of your home computer is not consistent with what you attested to on the security checklist, or if you failed to obtain authorization from your Dean, Director or Department Chair to have the patient data on your home computer. If you secure your home computer according to the security checklist provided with the new policy, and if you seek the required authorization, you are taking the right steps to protect patients, subject, students, your Dean, Director or Department Chair, the University, and yourself.
