The University of Nebraska-Lincoln requires all unmarried students who have less than 27 credit hours and who are under 19 years of age after the first day of classes for the fall semester to live in University-approved housing (residence halls, fraternities, sororities, or co-ops) for the entire academic year (Residency Requirement form – pdf). Students may also be given special permission to live with a parent or immediate relative and commute, provided that family member lives within a 30-mile radius of the UNL Campus. Although no one is required to live on campus, we suggest that students do so in order to receive the full college experience. It is a proven fact that students who live on campus and become involved in their institution tend to make better grades and graduate on time.

A. All students enrolled at the Wilkes Honors College (WHC) are required to live on campus. Students must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate. A resident may be required to depart from University Housing if enrolled credit hours drop below full-time status, at the request of the Director of Housing or designee.

All first-year students with fewer than 30 term credit hours are required to live on campus, unless they are commuting from the home of their parents or legal guardian. There are no housing requirements for other students.
