Stanford assistant athletic director Jim Young declined comment. Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins said in a prepared statement that the job had not been offered to anyone. According to KCSP, Harbaugh will be paid $2.7 million a year. Harbaugh’s wife is from the Kansas City area. Stanford went 8-4 in 2009, a season highlighted by a 55-21 win over USC in Los Angeles and a 45-38 home win over Notre Dame. When Harbaugh took over the program three years ago, the Cardinal was coming off a 1-11 season. Stanford will play in the Sun Bowl against Oklahoma. Harbaugh is in New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, where senior running back Toby Gerhart is a finalist. We have not offered the head coaching position to anyone.” The Star reported in this morning’s edition that Harbaugh has talked with Perkins about the job and that Harbaugh would likely be Kansas’ top choice. The Star also reported that East Carolina coach Skip Holtz and Buffalo coach Turner Gill have talked to Perkins and are still very much in the running for the job.
