WHO IS REALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONTINUED FAILURE OF OUR SCHOOLS?
Since 1996, our schools have been. run by the Control Board, which has presided over the continued failure of our schools. This is the same Control Board that gave us the “General”, who couldn’t open schools on time for three years, who eliminated public participation in the decision making process, and forced DCPS to adopt a financial management system which. has failed to pay hundreds of school personnel accurately. The Control Board has been responsible for the entire school governance flap. When Kevin Chavous began his politically motivated attack on the current school board about the lack of clearly delineated roles and responsibilities between the Board and the Superintendent, the school board had already submitted a board and superintendent roles and responsibilities plan, and a revised code of ethics, to the Control Board, pursuant to a transition plan imposed by the control board.
