Queen Liliuokalani was a queen of the Hawaiian Islands. In 1893 she attempted to restore actual rule to the throne of Hawaii, but she was captured by the Republic of Hawaii (a group run by businessmen and plantars), and she was eventually forced to abdicate the throne in 1896. She wrote the song “Aloha Oe” while in captivity.
