Who is protected by equal opportunity laws?
In Victoria, there are several laws which apply to prohibit discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace. The main laws are the: • Equal Opportunity Act 1995 (Vic) • Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 (Vic) • Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Act 1986 (Cth) • Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) • Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth) • Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) • Age Discrimination Act 2004 (Cth) These laws also apply to other areas of activity, such as the supply of goods and services, disposal of land, the provision of accommodation, education, running certain clubs and engaging in sporting activities.
