Who is promoting and funding the scheme?
The scheme is being promoted by the Haythornthwaite Sports Foundation (HSF). HSF, a registered charity, is the realisation of a dream based on a long held passion of local businessman David Haythornthwaite. Mr Haythornthwaite is passionate about sport and the role that sport can play in giving people, particularly young ones, a sense of direction, purpose and community. There is an ever increasing need for community sporting facilities in this area and in fact countrywide. HSF was born out of a genuine attempt to address this deficit and at the same time put something back into the community. Among the stated purposes of the charity are: “THE PROVISION OF RECREATION AND SPORTING FACILITIES IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE; TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH OF THE COMMUNITY BY THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES FOR PLAYING FOOTBALL, CRICKET, RUGBY AND OTHER HEALTHY SPORTS AND TO ADVANCE EDUCTAION OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS IN THE AREA THROUGH THE USE OF SPORTS AND THE PROVISION OF CLASSES FOR THE BEN
